when you leave a room turn off the light behind you, when you leave the house turn up the thermostate if its hot out side and turn it down when its cold, un plug appliances when you are done with them. well some of them like toaster coffie maker lamp maybe things of that nature.

Energy efficient light bulbs in all your house sockets. Energy star appliances! If you replace an old refrigerator you will save at around $20 a month.

Unplug everything when not in use. You can believe what a difference it will make. When I lived alone I tried this and it really does make you aware of just how much electric is going through, even when things are shut off.

    1. use less hot water (cold water is better when washing clothes)
    2. turn off the lights in the other rooms especially the kitchen
    3. use those electric savers with 8 outlets where you can plug in different things at the same time.
    4. Don’t use your heater!!! wear something warm
    5. fluorescent lightbulbs (be careful when they brake or don’t work anymore, recycle them because they CONTAIN MERCURY, which gives off a really poisonous gas [lightbulb] if broken.

Keep all unused rooms and closets closed.

    Shut vents in unused rooms.

Insulated drapes work great in hot and cold weather and will block out the sun for sleeping in.

You can use a window unit in your bed room and turn the central air off at night, I have done this and it saves a lot of $$.

Do the same in winter just use a heater instead , make sure you use a new safe model.

I also use electric blankets and have space heaters built in in most all of my rooms so I can heat only the rooms I use to the warmer temp.

Turning off lights is a no brain-er, use motion lights outside so they only come on if they need to.

Night lights can be used at night in bathrooms and hallways so you do not need to turn on the bright lights.

Buy new front loader washer and dryers, they are really worth the investment. In fact, all newer appliances will save you a lot in the long run.

New windows help if you live in an old house and more insulation really works.

I have a large house and my electric bill is always less than my family’s that have a smaller house.

    -Use compact fluorescent lightbulbs
-Turn the heat/air-conditioning down when you leave the house and when you’re sleeping
-Turn off lights when you leave the room
-If you can afford it, get more efficient appliances and make sure your house is well insulated
-Unplug phone chargers and other chargers when not in use (they still use small amounts of electricity whenever they’re plugged in)
-Try air-drying clothes instead of using a dryer
    -Wash clothes in cold water
-Use blinds/shades over windows in the summer to block out heat from the sun
-Take shorter showers (less water to heat up)
-Put your computer on stand-by when not in use
